When I go to the admin page—choose design - templates - template manager, I get this error page:

The name you submitted may only contain alpha-numeric characters, underscores, and dashes Copy of content_page

There is no “Copy of content_page” that I can find either as a string in my db or in the file system. There are two “content_page"s, one in templates/default_site/include.group the other in templates/default_site/include-dev.group. But no copy of.

    Hi ACP Webmaster,

Sorry to see you’ve got this troubling you. I’ve not seen this error before in the place where you describe it, so I’d like to get some more information from you in order to help you resolve this.

Do you get that error immediately when visiting your template manager or when trying to create a new template? Could you take a screenshot of the error you’re seeing and post it here?

    Resolution:

Every time I cloned the database, hard coded paths within it were incorrect.

    Suggestion:

Move all paths and identifying information out of the database to a configuration file.

Ah! Ok, I see this issue is related to your other thread here. Would you consider both resolved at this point, ACP?

Unfortunately the issue has come back.

Our expression engine site is hosted in shared hosting. We’ve been trying to move to an internal server, and every time I copy the site back over for testing, something goes wrong with cloning.

Again there is no “copy of content_page” in either the database or the file system, which leads me to believe that this error message is irrelevant to the cause. Just as “Site Error: Unable to Load Site Preferences; No Preferences Found” means expression engine can’t talk to the database. Last time something I did somehow resolved the issue, but I seem to have failed to observe what I did that actually fixed it.

I found a plugin Deeploy that exposed much more of the configuration in one place, the problem is now fixed,  template path was wrong. I strongly recommend this plugin for anyone moving an ee site.

The solution to my grief is too parts—(a) all configuration in one place [resolved by deeploy] (b) separation of configuration from the database [either move all the config to a config file, preferably not executable php, or allow saving and restoring configuration snapshots.]

I also would like to make 2 bug reports.

The name you submitted may only contain alpha-numeric characters… Error message should indicate template path or access issue.

Unable to load site preferences… error should indicate database issue.

    Hi ACP Webmaster,

I’m glad you were able to find a solution in Deeploy. ExpressionEngine 2.4 was recently released with an eye towards making deployment life easier by allowing more paths and URLs to be stored in config.php as well as moving /system/expressionengine/third_party/ *out* of /system/expressionengine/ and into a location that makes for easier updates.

I invite you to file your bug reports in the Bug Tracker to get them in front of the developers.

If you need anything else, please feel free to ping us in a new thread.

    Thanks!
