I have been looking into the possibility of importing the MYSQL online database into a local FileMaker database,  and getting the two to communicate with each other. It seems this is eminently feasible via ODBC -  that would mean that eventually it might be possible to edit online content locally, and have it reconciled and synchronised automatically.
Has anybody looked into this, and what do you think about that?

No, I haven’t done anything about it, other than download and install ODBC, and got it to talk to the server. I think it’s a nice idea, but it’s much to big a project for an amateur like me. But that would make EE REALLY user-friendly, if local set-up and editing was automatically transferable ...
