    Is there a way to keep the standard file type for a field and provide just standard HTML file upload on the front end through safecracker? I’ve tried just

    <input type="file" name="{custom_field_name}" />

    But that doesn’t appear to save the file correctly. Any suggestions? I want the ability of the standard file field for the backend and just a simple field on the frontend.

    Hi, Bryan.

    You’ll need to use SafeCracker File, the regular File field type doesn’t work with SafeCracker.

    Does that help?

    I tried that but I want to provide all the features in the backend of a robust file manager and just a simple file upload on the front end. Even with safecracker file if I add the “Show Existing Files” that shows on teh front end. I guess I can create two file fields, 1 for the front end users and then during the approval process by tthe client they can move that uploaded file or upload one themself to the full file field. Wish there was a more elegant solution for this. Maybe allowing the fieldtype structure in EE to have two version potentially (a front facing one where required and the default backend one).

    Hi there bryan2jumpstart,

    I’m sorry you are experiencing this. Can you help me out a bit and let me know what version of ExpressionEngine you are running into this with? Also, feel free to share your SafeCracker template code with us, it will aid in troubleshooting. In the meantime, have a read through this thread and let me know if that sounds similar to your situation.

    Thanks and cheers,

    Dan,

    I’m not running into a problem, but more of a limitation of the safecracker. I really just want to present a simple file upload on the safecracker form but have a full file manager on the backend for that same field. It doesn’t appear that is possible at the moment so I will just have to find a workout around.

    Hey bryan2jumpstart,

    Unfortunately, you are correct. At this point it is a either/or situation with regards to SafeCracker FIle vs. Standard File field types. What you suggest sounds like an excellent Feature Request!

    Is there anything else we can assist you with?

    Cheers,

    Sorry we didn’t have a more robust solution for you. Feel free to start a new thread if you have any more questions.
