    Hello,

I would like to be able to search custom fields and categories in one search. I tried search fields plugin and it works great for categories, but I can’t seem to get it to search custom fields. I have also tried advanced search module but I can’t get this to search categories. I am using ee 2.1. Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Bart

    Hi Bart,

When you say that you can’t get the Advanced Search form to search categories, what do you mean exactly?

What exactly happens when you use the code supplied in the documentation?

Using a stock copy of the documentation code I can search entries using categories and a keyword without any problems so I’m just wondering exactly what is happening for you here?

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Hi,

Can I type a “keyword” which can then match category title field and have it find results for this. I don’t want to use a dropdown of a category to limit keyword searches for just a category, or am I not understanding the default documentation code.

    Thanks,
    Bart

    Hi, digitalbart -

The EE search module searches only entries for content; you can use advanced search to restrict within which categories are searched - but not to search category titles themselves.

There are some other search options that may do this, such as Solspace.com’s Super Search; or using Google - which would spider the whole site - may be a better option in this case.

    Does that help?

Yes that helps. Thank you for the confirmation.
