Any way to change the file upload location of a File Field based on what category is selected for the entry?

I have a channel that will have a File Field to upload a zip file. I would like the file to upload to a different upload folder based on what “client” is selected. I figured creating categories for each “client” might work. is there any way to do this? Any other option or plugin to make this possible? Thanks!

will the client be uploading the file thru the Control panel side or a form that is on the front end?

bkmorse, The person creating the entries will do it through the admin, at least that is the plan.  I just wanted to clarify what I’m trying to do since after re-reading my post i can see how it might get misinterpreted…

Only one person(X) will be publishing entries, the channel data will basically be used to create an enewsletter for a specific client of X. So X will be creating enewsletters tailored for each of their clients. One requirement is for the enewsletter to link to a downloadable zip file with client specific files in it. I would like these files to go in client specific folders when uploaded from the publish page instead of the same folder assigned to the field.

    Thanks for your help!

I do not think there is native functionality that supports that workflow.

The best I can suggest is utilizing the file manager and giving that field access to the appropriate download folders, as seen in this screenshot http://cl.ly/AnHk

Or you could just upload to the same folder and display a list of files by client (category=”“), but I imagine that option will not do since you are looking for individual upload directories.

Thanks bkmorse, that’s kind of what I expected. Thanks for looking into it for me!
