Stop forum topics from expiring on the "viewforum" page?

I am working with a client who has a relatively inactive forum, but would like to keep all posts visible on the main topic listing page for the forum (for example, mysite.com/forums/viewforum/2/). By default, topics seems to be disappearing from this page after a certain period of inactivity.

I can’t find this in the docs anywhere - is it possible to modify the preferences or modify my forum theme to ensure that all topics will always display on the main forum listing page, regardless of age?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

The forum does not do away with any topics!
Rather it puts them on a second page and so on.
Check, for instance, one of my forums….
    http://www.hearth.com/econtent/index.php/forums/viewforum/2/

If you go to the bottom of that page, you will notice there are 925 other pages of thread listings.

You can set the amount on each page using the
CP Home ›  Modules ›  Discussion Forum ›  Hearth.com ›  Forum Board Preferences
    Default Preferences
    topics per page

Hi handyman, thanks for your help!

I understand that the topics will paginate after a certain number of topics are posted. What I am experiencing, however, is that topics that have gone a certain amount of time without any posts are actually disappearing from the viewforum page altogether. They are in the database and are included in the topic/post counts, and accessible if you type in their URL directly, but there seems to be no way to access them from the main “viewforum” page that lists all topics.

Has anyone else experienced this, and is there a way to modify this setting? Thanks,

    Rob

    Hi Rob,

I’m not aware of any setting that would be affecting this at all in ExpressionEngine.

Are you using the default forum theme that comes with ExpressionEngine or a custom theme?

If a custom theme then could you please try changing it to the default ExpressionEngine theme and seeing if the problem still exists?

    Thanks,

    Mark

As Mark is alluding to, chances are you have a template which has been modified and so does not contain the page links at the bottom.

I have never seen this reported before…in terms of posts not showing up….so I doubt it is something in the EE stock structure itself.

The first thing I would try is to replace all the forum templates with the current stock versions…..unless you are smart enough to dig into the code and find out where the pagnation code is!

    Hi Rob,

Could you try using the default ExpressionEngine forum theme and see if the problems go away.

Thanks for the help there Craig.
