    Hi all,

I am working on some documentation tutorials for a client, and when I went through to disable smileys and the XHTML overrides from the stock textarea, I couldn’t find the custom field options section.  I went back to an old 2.1.3 backup, and sure enough, the options display.  I went to the docs for 2.2.2 and they still direct me to look in the same place.

Did they get moved?  Is there a switch somewhere that I totally overlooked in the release notes?  Did my install get hosed somehow?

    Definitely urgent!

    Thanks in advance,

    Sam

    Hi Same,

Can you share a screenshot with us please?

Do you have any add-ons installed?

    Was the upgrade trouble free?

Can you confirm you also updated your theme folder?

    Hi John,

I have attached a screenshot as requested.  The upgrade appeared to go smoothly, the themes folder was updated, and I recopied the everything but the third_party folder just to be sure.  It looked like my config, database, and cache permissions needed updating, but I did that, cleared the cache and still no dice.

    Hi Sam,

Hmm that is a little odd.

I was just wondering what browser you are using there as the colour of the radio buttons looks different to what I see. Saying that it might of course just be the browser you’re using.

I can see that you’re using the NSM Morphine Theme. Could you try disabling that and seeing if the options come back when you just use the default control panel theme please.

    Thanks,

    Mark

No dice.  I’m going through the Add-On list and upgrading where applicable to see if there are any bugfixes which may have an impact.  Are there any path statements or settings which I may have overlooked which regulates the Field Options?  I tried re-uploading the fieldtypes folder from the installer, but that didn’t make a difference either.

I’m wondering whether it’s not to do with the upgrade but the server migration?  Thoughts?  Starting to get urgent.

I also just noticed that the Template manager is blank.  I can access templates via the drop down menu, which is how I normally approach the task.  I double and triple checked the theme folder paths as that was my first guess, but everything seems to be as it should be, Health Check doesn’t report any issues, and I’m not getting any PHP errors.

    Any other ideas?

    Hi Sam,

If you are just using a standard textarea field then no there aren’t any settings that would regulate showing those extra settings for you.

This is indeed a little strange.

I’m wondering would it be possible for you to make a new Custom Fields group as a test and then go to create a new field in that group and see if the options show up then?

I’m just wondering if something has maybe gone awry with the original fields and if creating new fields also exhibits the same behaviour here.

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Hi Mark,

Yeah, I’ve tried making new groups and fields.  I’ve also re-uploaded the fieldtypes and themes folders from the installer package.  No dice.

    Hi Sam,

As you are having troubles with both fieldtypes (built-in) and your templates could you try re-uploading the whole of your system folder please.

You will need to work around any 3rd party files that you have uploaded so that you don’t lose those but hopefully a fresh set of files may well fix this issue.

    Thanks,

    Mark

Sadly, no effect.  I guess that means it’s in the DB, no?  I also just noticed, I can’t upload from the File Manager.  Uploads from the Textarea fields work fine though.

    Hi Sam,

Could you try something for me please.

If you go to Add-Ons > Extensions at the top right hand side of that page you should see a red button that says Disable Extensions?.

There is a page in our WIKI here that explains more about this here.

If you could do that and then see if the field options then return please.

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Hi Mark,

I disabled the extensions on a devsite which is hosted on the same server and it had no effect.  The Template Manager is still displaying blank.  I also upgraded another EE install from 2.1.3 to 2.2.2 and have found the same behavior post-upgrade.  No errors posted during the upgrade, the site seems to function perfectly well, but the template manager displays as blank.

I think I’ve followed the upgrade instructions to the letter, so unless I’m missing something major, I think everything is as it is supposed to be insofar as process is concerned.  Both sites are hosted on Dreamhost.  I’m wondering if this might be an issue with Dreamhost’s LAMP configuration, any thoughts?

    Anything else to try?

I just did a few experiments.  It appears that all my updates from 2.1.3 to 2.2.2 are exhibiting the same behavior.  New sites on 2.2.2 seem to work fine.  I have a site which was updated a while back to 2.2.1 site whose template manager and Custom Field Options are intact.  I can try and update to 2.2.2 and see if I lose that functionality again.  I’ll report back on that shortly.

All sites are on our Dreamhost VPS account.

    Any thoughts in the meantime?

Ha!  Figured it out.  Turns out SearchEE was producing a JavaScript error that was interfering with the CP’s jquery.  I didn’t realize I didn’t have the latest version as it wasn’t showing up in NSM Addon Updater, and the Error wasn’t showing up in Firebug’s console.

Wasn’t until I poked around in Chrome I caught that there was an error.

Hopefully this thread will help someone else.

    Sam,

So glad you were able to find the error! Thank you for sharing your solution. I’ll resolve this out, but if you need assistance in the future, feel free to start a new thread.

    Cheers!
