I am noticing that my site is getting indexed in search engines.  I do see the actual full story, but I am also noticing that titles are being picked up in the index page that links the full story.  The problem is, that the search engine is seeing it like this:

    http://www.mysite.com/index.php/news/P60

But when the people click on that link its taking them to that pagination page of the channel where that story might be 20 articles ago and two pages deeper.

What is the best way to work with those index pages, should they be blocked from crawlers?  I will get a lot of people dropping away from the site if they can’t get right to the article.

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this?

    Hey Jeff,

I am having a similar issue. My site’s /P(numbers) for pagination is ranking and indexing with Google. I suspect that it is also causing a duplicate penalty with Google as well. I haven’t found any definitive answer on this. I read that you can edit the paginate php module with some code to add a “noindex,” but others have said it is better to add a canonical relationship to the pagination links. But, I can’t seem to figure that out yet.

Any tips or info would be great. Or if you found a solution for this yet.

    Thanks!

    Jesse
