I created a clone of a current website/database and set it up under
a different IP address in Apache. I then modified my local “hosts”
file to point the source sites domain name at the new IP address (as
I had issues bringing up the site without using the domain name) after doing
that I was able to log into the cloned site as a superadmin and change
the domain and file paths to the dest clones paths). After doing so I
am able to access the site from the new domain but I am no longer
able to login with the superadmin account. Is this because of a security
feature? Do I need to apply a new license and the admin account will start working

    corpor,

What version of ExpressionEngine have you moved? There are a few files to double check the paths on depending on your version.

    Cheers,

    corpor,

There are no ‘phone home’ capabilities in ExpressionEngine so nothing like that would be causing you any issues.

You will want to double check that you have followed the instructions on how to move a site to another server even though your site is moving to your local host.

Let us know how that goes.

I pretty much did what was in the instructions and was able to bring the site up and log in with the domain name “members.example1.com”. The login issues starts after I login as superadmin and change “URL to the root directory of your site” from “members.example1.com” to “members.example2.com”.

I am able to bring up the site and everything looks fine but the logins do not work. I hit submit and it just brings me back to the admin.php login form. The member login form redirects to the successfully logged screen and then redirects back to the login form after that.

Have you tried clearing your browser cache?

And I am assuming that you are changing all of your paths using something like Deeploy Helper?

Yes just tried that to be sure. Still doing the same thing. Access log follows.

Didn’t know about that tool. I went into config.php and updated $config[‘base_url’] and $config[‘cp_url’] with the new domain. I also changed values on the General Configuration page. I’ll try the tool you mentioned.

Changed the domain with the deeploy_helper tool. Very nice tool BTW. All relevant files have been updated.

database.php contains new database connection string information.
    config.php contains new domain base_url and cp_url.

Is there some debugging option for authentication that I could turn on to help us out?

    Thank you

Finally tracked down the problem. Had to change the “Cookie Domain”. Login is working fine now on the new domain. Thank you for the assistance.
