A lot of articles on one of our EE sites are about certain countries and places. At the end of every article we have a ‘related articles’ section where we handpick related articles to list. As the site gets larger this process gets a bit cumbersome.

We think it may be a better idea to assign each entry a country, region and city using this plugin: http://devot-ee.com/add-ons/reegion-select/

We then thought we could an add-on such as Playa to somehow relate these entries using those fields?

Would this be a possible or are their other/better ways to achieve this goal? Bonus points for a way to have some sort of organised directory on the front-end but that’s a whole other puzzle to solve!

A few ideas spring to mind:

1. Use 3 separate Channels for Countries, Regions and Cities
- utilise Channel Relationship fields to associate entries, that would enable you to match content by country, region and/or city.
- one major benefit is that you could easily do relationships between locations
- you could also use the 3 channel structure for the sites main navigation

2. Use categories
- doable but the number of categories might grow unweidly over time and you wouldn’t have the flexibility of the Channel based approach

3. Use Tags
- a tag based approach might be easier to manage?

#1 was my first thought.

I would agree with #1 as well. Or use of Playa. Playa may simplify things a bit.

The use of Playa is recommended in order to simplify the UI?
