File Manager ’Edit Image’ won’t save changes

I can upload images fine, but when I attempt to edit them and them re-save I get this message:

    An Error Was Encountered
Unable to save the image. Please make sure the image and file directory are writable.

I’m using Apache on XAMPP on Windows 7, there is no problem uploading to that directory.

I have even given both the directory & image (plus thumbnail dir & image) full rights for ‘Everyone’ but the error keeps happening.

Any suggestions please? Perhaps I have something else mis-configured in EE?

[Mod Edit: Moved to the EE 2 Tech Support forum]

Same problem… I also have rights set to Everyone on the folder and file.

Running EE 2.2.2 on Windows 2008 Server.

I’m having exactly the same problem here. I’m on EE 2.2.2, Windows Ultimate 64, XAMPP setup. We are unable to edit images on the local server with the following error:

    An Error Was Encountered

Unable to save the image. Please make sure the image and file directory are writable.

I’ve assured many time that the permissions are correct, both for the whole folder and the individual file in question. Planning to migrate to staging server this afternoon on enginehosting and will update this as to whether it is a problem on that server.

    UPDATE:

I found that when I migrated the site to enginehosting the issue disappeared. So it is likely something to do with XAMPP. I’m using version 1.7.3.

I have a similar issue. I attempt to edit the image and nothing shows up in the edit image panel. the system acts as if there is a picture presented but there is none. This occurs in both Firefox 7.0 and IE 9. IE shows the proverbial little red X in the upper left corner that indicates that it did not find an image.
