    Hi all,

After finding out that the picture gallery module is removed in EE 2.0 it leaves me high and dry for my clients request for a gallery.

Do i a) use a plugin or b) build one using existing ee structure and channels, file manager.

Can anyone offer any advice, success stories?

    Thanks,
    Ian

I prefer Matrix to build simple galleries in EE. He even has a little tutorial on how to use it for image galleries. However, there is a new free alternative, which I have not tried yet, called Grid Lite.

Depending on the exact requirements a simple Channel based approach is what I normally go for.

    - each photo is a Channel entry
    - you can add custom fields for each photo as required
    - use Categories and Statuses for classification and organsation

To generate thumbnails then the Imgsizer or CEimage plugins come in handy!

I use channels. It really is not that hard do. Especially if I can do it. Check out my website at http://www.n2lrb.com. See the photo section. On the left you will see my categories.  Feel free to ask how it is done.

Matrix fields + jquery cycle plugin can handle 90% of the galleries I’ve ever needed to build.  Throw in Fancybox.net for some lightboxes if you want to add a little something extra.

Assets from Pixel & Tonic is a great solution for image management:

It’s more for entry specific galleries, but the Channel Images plugin is freaking awesome, powerful and easy to use.

How about another method that’s not tied to entries? Really struggling with this.
