How can I prevent getting spammed in my comments section of my site. I don’t want ot turn it off and I tried adding captcha but that doesn’t work at all.
I am using ExpressionEngine Core 1.6.8 and don’t see any plug ins that would prevent that.

You and me both. My blog has been fairly spam-free for almost nine years. Then, a few weeks ago it started. It’s to the point where I have to turn off comments at night.
My plan was to end this blog in October, but it’s likely that the end will come sooner than that. Spammers win again.
