    Hi All,

It’s been a few days since I let it loose but I thought I would show off my first CodeIgniter powered site: http://dropsauce.com

It is a file upload service where you can create uploads to named urls (e.g. http://dropsauce.com/my-trip-to-bali/)

    Key features:
    - Multiple file selection
    - Uploads with progress and preview once complete (it’s Flash powered for now)
    - Ability to password protect drops/files
    - Ability to auto-delete drops and files after a certain period
    - No need to sign up.  Just upload anonymously!
    - If you sign up you get larger quotas and extensions to how long you can keep your files
    - etc.

Give it a try and let me know what you think!

    Thanks!

Tried it out, uploaded a file, quite neat, but how do I delete my test item now? Do I have to wait for it to expire? No overrides?

Yes, as anonymous user, you can’t delete your drops (at least not yet).

So you will have to rely on it to auto-expire or password protect it so others can’t see it.

If you want to be able to delete and view all your other uploads, you will have to sign up (and be signed in when uploading).

The idea behind this is so you can quickly upload some files to an easy to name location/url so you can share (email) it to your friends. 😊

Seems really smooth to me, my comments:

After you upload in anonymous mode, it’d be nice to have a nice big visible textbox with the link to your drops, maybe even with mailto option to friends.

The popups with links deserve a little bit more styling, cause they look very Jquery UI-ish right now, visually not in line with the rest of your site.

Perhaps a chance to edit / change pass / expiry date immediately upon downloading for anon users ... This one probably clashes too much with the benefits of membership, but it creates another screen (like the mailto option above) for the visitors to engage with the ads.

    Nice job.

Well the link to your drop is in the url but I think showing the url in a big box right above the thumbs will be a good idea. 😊

Before I went live with this release, I did add “Email to friends” link at the top but then removed it (in fact it’s still in my changesets 😊 )

So the next release will have a link at the top with “Email to friends” or something.

The popup is ugly so I will definitely put it on my todo list for next release.

Allowing anon users to “manage” their drops will come later.  What’s planned for registered users is:
    - Renaming drops
    - Changing passwords
    - Renewing/changing expiry
    - Adding more files to a drop

I may change my mind and allow anons to do this too.  Will see.

    Again, appreciate the feedback!
