    Hi,

I have some performance issues with my website running Expression Engine.
In general the website takes 3 to 8 seconds to load.

A part of those seconds were contacting… the server (or waiting for the server)
The other part was loading all the content and getting all the entries.

That last part is now fixed since i cached several templates and channel entries.

So now i keep stuck with those seconds contacting the server.

I already contacted my host one.com (I know not a good choice for running Expression Engine). And they couldn’t help since they don’t support EE. They told me this was because “allowOverride All” wasn’t on.

Now stated in this thread “EE doesn’t require AllowOverride, that was actually a typo in previous versions of the documentation.”
    http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/166686/P18/#819721

After having a second chat session with one.com
They told that the problem was that EE was caching my sql and templates (what i just had turned on).

So after disabling those cache options and clearing my folders, they told me that this would benefit my performance.

Iam not noticing any significant difference since i turned the caching off.

    Now my question is:
Are there any solutions or improvements that would benefit the contacting/ waiting for server load time.

    Thanks in advance,
    Steven

Hmmm… I took a look at the conversation using the net setting in Firebug (right click-inspect element-net tab). It shows you the elements that make up the page and how long each one is taking and where it is slow in the process (waiting on server, sending, receiving). Most of the items I see are waiting on the server. Typically this tells me that the hosting is really slow.

I am going to assume this is a shared hosting account?

Also have you followed some of the instructions in Greg’s Performance Troubleshooting blog post?

I have a number of clients using shared hosting so it shouldn’t be a problem. But I will admit that I know nothing of one.com

I have checked out Firebug to, the most time spend is indeed waiting on server.

One.com is a shared hosting account indeed. I have other clients running on other shared hosting servers and got no problems.

I will have a look in that link you posted, and try to fix some, even tho i don’t think the problem is my part.

    Any other guesses?

I would take an export of that same site and put it on another server. If it is faster then you should share with your client the results and let them make the decision. There are plenty of shared hosting providers that can provide the resources needed to run an EE site quickly.
