    Hello,

I’m developing an EE site locally for the first time - I’m running WAMP on Windows Vista. Everything is going pretty well, except my remove index.php .htaccess file doesn’t seem to be having any effect.

From the WAMP system tray icon, I selected Apache > Apache Modules and made sure “rewrite_module” was checked. Then I restarted the server just to be safe.

    I’m using Kevin Thompson’s remove index.php code.

Does anyone have any experience with this & can offer advice? Thanks!

I am having the same issue with my WAMP configuration, and I found this link in the Wiki:

    Remove Index.php Wiki

But the methods I wanted to use didn’t work nor did the one you linked to in your post. So while this link might help you, I was wondering if anyone else could help me.  I have tried using the include, exclude and the “File and Directory Check” Methods.  I have even tried modifying this line by removing the / in front of index.php, adding the actual full path and putting a ? after index.php.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

I just tried Kevin’s removal and it seems to work fine on WAMP w/ Vista.

Have you removed index.php from Admin -> General Configuration -> “Name of your site’s index page” ?

    Here is some more info.

I’ve had success with NSM .htaccess Generator as well for whatever it’s worth.

    Natetronn,

Do you have to do any additional configuration to WAMP besides just the basic install?

See this post. Specifically the section about:

    $config['uri_protocol']    = "AUTO";

    Mine is set to AUTO.

And to answer your previous question about WAMP config. I don’t recall anything besides turning on the rewrite_module which you have done already.

I used this tutorial for MAMP, but it might be the same…http://www.tonygeer.com/2010/06/10/expressionengine-tips-and-tricks-for-beginners-1-installing-ee-locally-using-mamp/ I had the same problem, setting up a virtual host for the site made it act like it was a real site and solved all my htaccess and url problems. I actually purchased MAMP Pro to make creating virtual hosts easy as pie.

I actually have this setup now that you mention it MikeTheVike as it makes setting up multiple server environments a breeze though, I don’t recall having any issues without the virtual host in place.

Anyhow, it’s nice to use either way and it may just help as Mike said. It’s pretty easy to setup virtual hosts for WAMP and there are many tutorials on doing so over at the Google.

    Hey guys,

Thanks for the replies, I really appreciate it.

I’ve actually had virtual hosts set up on my local environment the whole time, and I’m still having this problem. It doesn’t seem to matter whether I use the EllisLab-approved index.php removal script or a different one, I still get a 404 if I try to access a page without index.php in the URL.

I looked at those posts regarding the URI protocol, but changing it to REQUEST_URI didn’t work. I also tried the script on the linked article by Eric Regan but it didn’t work either. He did say, however, that “in our system we set a constant (ENV) based on our environment”, but I don’t know what he means by that. Where do I set a constant (ENV)?

As for Leevi Graham’s .htaccess generator, I’ve heard some nasty stories about how it can cause all sorts of problems if you have anything more than a simple site.

This is so damn frustrating, especially since it seems like I’m the only one having the problem.

    Hi Kristen,

I’ve never had any issues with NSM .htaccess Generator 😉

If you need support for a NSM .htaccess Generator issue fire an email and we’ll get it sorted.

    Cheers Leevi
