I’m still running 1.x.  and have purposely waited to upgrade to EE2x due to all of the bugs.

I’m upgrading the look of my site plus implementing 2 new ones.  What’s your recommendation?

Any comments are welcomed.  With yesterday’s upgrade is the time now right? There would be a cost involved (EE, and some plugins) but should I take the plunge or not?

It’s always a good idea to upgrade whenever you can, although the EE1 series will be around for a while yet you’re going to have to upgrade at some point.

Personally, for a live site, I leave any new relaeses for a while so any bugs/glitches can be ironed out. For a brand new site I’d usually install the latest version.

EE2 has a lots of advancements - better channel management, comments manager, new custom fields and a lots of add-ons and better support.

Also, EE2 has a lot better admin control panel and which is easy to use.

I would have advised that you stick with 1.x before 2.2 came out.  Earlier versions had a bunch of annoying problems, but 2.2.1 is a HUGE improvement over everything prior.  I just went through an upgrade on a 2.1.3 site and it went off without a hitch.

I can also tell you that from a client point of view - meaning your clients - they will love the much improved CP.  I have updated 2 clients that had been on 1.x and they have both raved about it.

So, obviously, I think the upgrade is very worthwhile.

    Ditto here.

I was not happy upgrading from 1.7x to earlier versions of EE 2.x. EE 2.2.1 seems to be the best EE 2 version yet.

Plus, there are a number of very good alternate CP themes which are easily customized and colorized using override.css.

I think EE 1 is rolling out. So, it is advisable to jump to EE2 if you are still using EE 1.

While this is an old post, yes EE1 support is being reduced then stopped so for projects that need continued support it’s worth upgrading to EE2.

If a website ‘just works’ and there’s no changes in sight for it, it’s probably not worth the aggravation.

Add on availability is probably the main reason to jump to EE2 now. Though on the flip side, the same is true in reverse - I use a couple of add ons that haven’t been ported to EE2.

The trailing slash issue is still putting me off - not a massive job but annoying none the less.

Does anyone have a good tool for pre-determining whether or not extensions will work post EE upgrade? That is, aside from checking the obvious compatibility remarks. Thanks.
