    Hiya,

Just a very quick question here.

Was wondering why some sites have the title (and sometimes a header image) on a single entry page link back to the page you are already on?

Is this just because they forgot to take the link out or is it good for SEO or something?

A quick example of what I’m on about would be any of the tuts sites such as http://nettuts.com and the image there links back to the page you are currently on.

Thanks for anyones insight on this one.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

Isn’t that a Wordpress thing? WP’s default templates always seem to link headings to the current page, or probably because it uses the same code output on listing and single entry pages.

There’s no SEO value at all as far as I can see, more likely that’s just how it works and developers just don’t take it out.

    Hi Rob,

Thanks for the reply. Ah I’ve not really ever used WordPress so didn’t know that, thanks.

I guess yes they are just not bothering to take them out. Actually annoys me a bit as when I hover over them accidentally and see a hand come up I’m part expecting something good to happen and instead just get sent back to the same page again.

    Thanks again for the info.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

lol - yes I’ve clicked those sort of links very often as well expecting to go to another page 😊

Even Wordpress do it on their own corporate blog - http://wordpress.org/news/2011/06/passwords-reset/

Yep very very annoying isn’t it.

Just laziness on the part of the developer I reckon.
