Have just updated a website to version v1.7.1 (Build 20110509) and am having problems uploading files through the Publish/Edity Entry ‘Upload File’ link as well as through nGen File Field (v1.0.2).

The directories are set to 777 permissions. nGen can see the existing files in the directory as can the EE File Browser. The File Upload preferences for the directory is set as ‘Images only’ (note it happens for all File Upload Directories - there are four setup).

When use nGen File Field and File Upload Pref set to ‘Images only’ I get the following error:

imagename.jpg is not an image Allowed: PNG/JPG/GIF

When use nGen File Field and File Upload Pref set to ‘All file types’ I get the following error:

Something happened while uploading imagename.jpg Please try again

If I attempt using the EE Upload File with File Upload Pref set to ‘Images only’ or ‘All file types’ I get the following error:

An error of an unknown type was encountered.

Damn frustrating as I have a training session tomorrow with the client about uploading new images.

Any assistance helpful, or if someone else with the latest build can confirm it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Brendan

    Hi, Brendan.

Is it *every* .jpg, or one in particular? Can you send me a link to it via MSG below my avatar?

    Hi Sue

It didn’t matter if it was a .jpg, .png or .pdf (when All types allowed), still the same problem. Trying under Firefox and Chrome, and on different machines.

    Cheers
    Brendan

Just some ideas in case it jogs anything…

Did you install the EE system above the web root?
    Any relative file paths anywhere?
What are the owner and group names for the image directory and do they allow uploads?

    Maybe those will help?

    Bob.

Also, anything in the .htaccess file that messes with image file extensions?

If you look at that particular entry, you’ll notice I was able to upload a .png file.

So there might be other issue going on with nGen, I know it is very memory hungry.

My little .png may have been small enough to not trigger the problem.

Hmmm, for some reason my post that I did yesterday didn’t go up. Sorry to waste your time.

The problem was tracked back to the web hosting provider needing to specify the ‘tmp’ directory for the account. Apparently they only do it on request.

And Bob, appreciate the feedback too, I tried all those items suggested, but of course we now know the problem was server based. Why can’t these web hosting providers just set it up to begin with!

    Thanks
    Brendan
