    I’m creating an event system and have a series of events where the title is always the same (so we’re not looking at the title field at all). The only relevant & unique info the channel holds is the date & two categories. Is there a way to pre-populate the title & URL title fields with the entry ID or some other unique ID?

    Hi, 1123.

    Have you seen: Low Random. That might work for you.

    I’m not sure how this would relate to setting a default value in the control panel for new channel entries. Just to clarify, the problem is that the Title field is required an the url_title must be unique for a channel entry, I’d like to not have to manually fill these in.

    I’m not sure if this solution is suitable to your situation, however, we recently revamped a client’s event management system so that each event, like “Romeo and Juliet,” had a single entry, and all of its showtimes were managed with a Matrix field.

    It was super helpful because it greatly reduced the number of entries displayed in the EE control panel, let the client update showtimes for multiple events from a single page, and, best of all, kept them from having to enter titles like “Romeo and Juliet - June 7, 2011 - 7:00 PM.”

    Thanks for the idea. Matrix is pretty cool, I’ve used it on 1.x before. So I could actually just re-use a single entry (in my case). Example:

    Title: Investor Workshops

    Matrix fields:
    Date:
    Time:
    Office: (drop down)

    One of things I like about using individual entries and categories is that it is really easy to select just the events for a single office (Offices are a category group). However, I see that Matrix has a pretty nifty search parameter that would probably accomplish the same thing - although this may just be for numeric comparisons:

    {speakers search:age=">=16"}

    You’re welcome!

    I’m 95% certain that’ll work with non-numerics as well.  Good luck!

    We have a commercial module that I think will work for random, unique url title.  Shoot me a private message if interested.

    Thanks trenchard.

    ll23, as this is going to require an add-on I’m going to move this over to Community Help to try to get you any further input. Thanks!
