Just noticed today that the “web mode” for our domain is only running under “PHP 4 CGI” which is no longer recommended by Dreamhost, and we are running EE 2 which says it requires PHP 5 or newer. Does this only affect CGI scripts or should I look to switch to PHP 5.2 or 5.3 for better compatibility with EE? If so, which version? Why was I even allowed to upgrade to EE 2 if it requires PHP 5?

    Hi, Brian.

Did you run the Server Wizard to make sure that your hosting was compatible?

That’s the first step I usually recommend.

As far as the version of PHP5 to work with, 5.2 or 5.3 would be fine. What does DreamHost offer? I haven’t used their offering for years..

Everything checked out OK with the server wizard. I also changed the “Web Mode” for the domain from PHP 4 tp PHP 5.2 and everything seems OK still. But checking the databases I have setup - I just made two new ones today and they are both showing as “MySQL 5 database” whereas the original one for the site (created a few years back) shows as just “MySQL database.”

I should mention I have some weird things happening in the control panel still. Clicking on some entries to modify them, I am taken to a screen with blank fields, other times I may get an error trying to open the entry. Coming back to the entry after clicking something else seems to work usually.

Coming back to this thread…any thoughts on my post from 5/20? Thanks.
