    Hi there,
my client tries to send automatic emails in Chinese when a customer places an order on their online store.
However, all Chinese characters become some funny symbols.
May you suggest what I should do?
    Thanks in advance,
    Chris

    Chris,

What are you using for your online store? Are you using a particular add-on for that?

In your Email Preferences make sure that Email Character Encoding is set to utf-8

CP Home ›  Admin ›  System Preferences ›  Email Configuration

Does your site use a Chinese language pack? What is the default language of the site set to in General Configuration?

    Hi John,

I’m also working on this site with Chris. The issue is actually just with the emails sent by the system, not the ones sent from store. We get the text from the image above when using Chinese characters within the Email Notification templates or with emails sent through the communicate tab.

The Email Character Encoding is set to utf-8 in the email configuration and we have the Chinese Traditional and Chinese Simplified language packs installed. The default language is set to English.

    Thanks,
    Andrew

Hi, Andrew. Welcome to the EE forums.

If I were troubleshooting this on my own install, I’d need the following:

A .txt file with the actual characters to send via the Communicate tab.

Can you tell us which version/build of EE2.x you’re using? See EEWiki:// HowTo Determine My EE Version

As well as the language packs - are they up to date?

Can you assist with helping us troubleshoot this? Ordinarily I just copy and paste characters from a text file for testing. I have lots of builds/versions to test against…

    Hi Sue,

Thanks for following up. I think we’ve solved this issue so you can close this thread.
