This is an ongoing issue we’ve been having. There are times when we’re trying to update an entry and it just takes forever. During some of these instances the screen goes blank and we have to try again upload content. This also happens when trying to publish new content.

Any ideas? It’s only recently (last few months) that this has been a problem. We’re using EE 1.7.0 Build 20101018.

    Thanks!

    NNWebmaster,

    Are you using any extensions?
How much PHP memory do you have?

What kind of hosting do you have?
Do you have a lot of categories?
Have you tried manually deleting cache via FTP?

I’m using several extensions actually. I think we’re up to 220MB PHP Memory. We’re hosting with Rackspace (1 web front and 1 db). Yes we have categories (we’re a news site). No I haven’t tried deleting cache manually.

    Hi NNWebmaster:

    Couple questions:

1.) Approximately how many entries do you have?
2.) Are you using tag caching and template caching heavily?
3.) Are you utilizing many relationships?

    Hi NNWebmaster,

Try clearing your cache and see if that helps at all.

    1) Have you been able to narrow the problems to a specific weblog? Or is it a widespread problem with every weblog?
    2) What are the custom fields you have in each of the weblogs you’re having trouble with? If you create a test weblog and only add a textarea custom field to it, does the problem still present itself?

Thanks for your patience with this. We’re trying to zero in on the problem area.

    Hi Kevin,

Yes I’ve tried clearing the cache. I’ve even optimized and repaired the database several times. The problem occurs mainly with our news articles weblog. It has the most entries and it takes a very long time to load an entry to edit which sometimes results in the white screens.

I have about 9 custom fields in that weblog:

Field Label               Field Name         Field Type
    1 Article Excerpt           article_excerpt   WYSIWYG
    2 Article Body             article_body         WYSIWYG
3 Article Author           article_author         Text Input
4 Author Email             author_email         Text Input
5 Article Photo           article_photo         nGen File Field
6 Article Photo Credits       article_photo_credits   Text Input
7 Article Photo Caption       article_photo_caption   Text Input
    9 Related Information       related_info         Playa
11 Article Gallery           article_gallery   FF Matrix

    Hi NNWebmaster,

220MB is quite a lot. Did you have to increase this previously, and if so, what prompted that? Also, were many entries added in the past few months?
