Trying to install ExpressionEngine 2.1.3 and get

“A Database Error Occurred Unable to connect to your database server using the provided settings.

    Filename: controllers/wizard.php

    Line Number: 1450”

I’ve checked and rechecked the passwords, I’ve also set the permissions correctly according to the instructions.

This is my 2nd time installing Expression Engine with HostGator, the first time I had no issues at all, definitely need help, quickly…

Trying to type in username and password for in the db file don’t know where it is supposed to go? I’m not good with code at all I need to know exactly where to put and type in stuff.

This worked fine on the other one I installed, but I have no idea how to fix this

Hi, swgraphics. You’re going to need to know what the database, username and password are for your site. Your host should be able to help you.

I apologize if I gave the wrong impression, I have the correct username, database and password. After removing files and installing again issue remains.  This is my second time installing EE. The first time it worked great without issue. This is my 2nd time now and it will not install.

I am using the same web host as the 1st time when it worked. I’ve also tried the steps on: http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/174154/

When following these instructions: “First thing to do is double-check your database settings with your host.
There is a useful tool inside system/expressionengine/utilities folder called dbtest.php
Open it in a text editor and fill in your db details. Move it to the root of your site and visit it in your browser.”

I get: “A connection was established to your database server Unable to select your database”

    I need help.

Tried again and it worked!! This time I used the MySQL Database Wizard and created a new database, username and password.

Anybody using Hostgator having this issue, try using the database wizard and see if it works…

    Hi, swgraphics -

Thanks for the update! Yes, the database must exist before you can install ExpressionEngine.

Are you all set now? =)
