    Hi,

    I have a separate database I use for billing and invoicing to simplify coding. In the membership module I have added a custom field called client_no which I want to collect when the user belongs to the client group member.

    My question is, I want to be able to make this custom field read only so that the client cannot change it at will as this will also be the other tables ID primary key.

    Is there an easy way to do this without building my own member_edit template ?

    or: Can I exclude one custom field when using

    {custom_profile_fields}

    Hi, IT Buff.

    It’s all in how you set up the custom field.

    See the attached screen shots. I registered a user in the Members group with the default permissions allowed, and added a customer number field. When the new user attempts to edit their profile, they don’t see the added custom field.

    Does that help?

    Hi Sue,

    Yes thanks I overlooked that 😊

    Just wondering though, is there a way I can display individual fields in the member_edit template instead of {custom_profile_fields}. If I could then I would have much more control on the input type of each field.

    reason I asked is I may want the members to view their customer number as read only input box.

    Solspace Users extension. Seriously, I’ve modded templates, tried creative approaches and none work as well as dropping $100 on this extension, if you value your time and your time = $$ then pony up the coin and do it, you will achieve more in less which = $$ in your pocket.

    Yes, I know EE should do this and that but seriously, EE is a platform that does a lot but its power lies in 3rd party developers and their goodies that save you time.

    Rant Over 😊

    Thanks for the assist, Cheif.

    If you want that level of control, the Solspace User Module is the way to go. I also agree with Cheif in that there are those times when it is just more cost effective to use a third party add-on than to roll your own.
