I only own the freelancer version right now, so I can’t test this.

In the full version of EE2, does the member registration process include a double opt-in email?

What I mean is when a person registers, does EE send them an email and make them verify by clicking a link in the email?

    Thank you.

If you configure it to, yes.  This has been a feature in EE from the very early days.

OMG!  How, where?  Step by step!  I don’t see it in the Member Preferences page.

Do you mean the “self activation via email”?

Doesn’t seem to help with these semi human bots.  They do click the link emailed to them.  But they are still evil.  Attached is a screenshot of the types of emails they’re using.  I now have it set to manual, where they have to write back some essay before I consider activating them.

But there must be an easier way.

I am quite frustrated with the membership process.  I’m on member #20,000 now, and less than 1000 are real.

Is there a way to require that members fill out more of the profile upon registration?  As if that would deter bots.  It would be more work to go and check their profiles.

What are some workarounds people have used?
