    Hi,

I running EE with multisite manager:
ExpressionEngine V 1.6.7 Build: 20090320 (the initial version I purchased)
    Multisite - V 1.1 Build 20081024

    I have three sites:
    ComicaFestival.com (primary site)
    PaulGravett.com
    Escape-Books.com

Additionally I have installed the Solspace Tagging module v2.6.6.

I am considering upgrading the EE software to the current v2 version, however could you explain:
    - what the additional benefits/features in v.2 compared from v 1.6.7?
    - do I need to upgrade the multisite/tagging software as well?
    - Are there some guidance notes as to how to upgrade, as I’m a little nervous as to what to do.

Many thanks for your help with this.

    Hi, Tim.

EE 1.7.0 is the last version of the 1.x branch of ExpressionEngine. New functionality isn’t going to be done to that branch of the code, all new development is focus on the 2.x branch.

While you can still receive support for the 1.x branch, official support will eventually end for the 1.x branch, while 2.x support will still be available.

You’d need to upgrade EE, the MSM, and Solspace’s module to work with EE2.x.

As far as guidance before upgrading goes, I’d offer the following bits of advice:

    1. Determine if your third party add-ons have been upgraded.

    2. Clean out any bogus users, old data, old content, templates not in use and the like. Make sure you have a GOOD backup of your database before any updating.

    3. Do a trial run on updating by installing locally. This way, if you run into any issues, you are working with a copy, not the live version.

    4. Read through EEDocs:// Update from EE1.x

    Does that help?

    Sue,

Okay. I can see I have a fair bit of preparation to do.

While instinctively I feel I should keep my version of EE up to date, what I haven’t seen is a full list of additional features/benefits available in V2 that weren’t in V1. Does such a summary exist.

I guess I’m just trying to be clear that upgrading is worth the hassle.

    Thanks,
    Tim

I tried looking to see if there was an official listing, but didn’t find one easily available. There’s a list of functions in the pricing page - http://expressionengine.com/overview/pricing
