I have recently returned to an EE 1.6.7 installation.  All templates are rendering correctly on the front end and everything is visible on the front end.  However, when I choose to edit one template in particular in the control panel, there is nothing in the file - it’s blank.

I am not using templates as files or anything, but t just isn’t there.

    Any ideas?

    Hi, Mantishead.

Unless you specifically set it, templates aren’t saved by default. You can change that fairly easily, by doing the following:

Visit Templates > Global Template Preferences and set Save Template Revisions to Yes.

You can also change the number of items saved in that list - I usually use 15 instead of 5.
    Does that help?

If I’m reading correctly you actually created the template in the control panel and then when you went back to it again it wasn’t there? Also you don’t have the system set to save templates as files?

If so then it appears there’s something else going on here. Have you tried with a different browser?

    Best wishes,

    Mark

    Hey thanks for the reply…

Mark you’re absolutely right - I don’t have revisions, or templates as files switched on.
I hadn’t considered trying another browser since they were showing up for other templates but I guess it’s worth trying.

    I will let you know..

Adding to the advice above you might also want to try upgrading to EE 1.7; this would help us to rule file corruption issues, too.

Thanks all - I connected from a different computer using Safari (same as other computer) and template is back again.
When I re-checked on the other machine it’s still not there.  Very peculiar.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions..

Is there anything peculiar about that machine? A personal firewall, something like that? Are you using the same browser on both computers?

I’ve had this happen using Safari. Sometimes the template just comes up empty. Trying a few times to load the template gets it after a while. I’ve never been able to tie it down to one thing other than perhaps memory leak in the application itself. Might be that sort of thing at play here.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

Thanks, Mark. What browser are you using, Mantishead?
