Hi There, I have tried everything to get PDF’s to upload to the file manager. I had it working a couple of weeks ago, but now it won’t upload. I don’t even get a message. I can upload images. I have set the XSS filtering to “no”, and logged in as a non-super admin, but I still can’t upload the files. Any suggestions would be great?

    dodgson,

What version and build of EE are you using?
In your upload destination preferences what type of files have you enabled?

    Can you upload as SuperAdmin?

    What browser are you using?

Hi John. Thanks for looking into this for me.

    I’m running EE v 2.1.3
My upload destination preference is set to “All file types”.
I’m unable to upload as Super Admin or any member type for that matter.
I’m using Safari as the browser.

Hi John, I thought I would add some additional info. I had uploaded a PDF a couple of weeks ago, so it was already showing in the file manager. I downloaded that pdf and tried uploading the same file to a different folder within the file manager. It wouldn’t upload. I opened the PDF and re-saved it in Acrobat and tried again. It uploaded instantly. So I tried uploading that same file on my desktop to the other folder within the file manager and it wouldn’t upload again. I re-opened it in Acrobat and re-saved it, then uploaded it again to the other folder and again… It uploaded. I have tried this with multiple PDFs and they all react exactly the same. I have to re-save the file each time to upload the PDF.

    Any Suggestions?

    dodgson,

There is quite a long thread and a bug report in for a similar issue

Do you have any xss preference in your config.php file that may be overriding your selection in the cp?
What’s odd is that you have this issue with it off

Can you have a read through the linked thread and see is there are similarities to your issue. It might be another good example to use in the bug report

Hi John, I have checked my config.php file and the only thing I can see is the following. Is this correct?

    $config['global_xss_filtering'] = FALSE;

Hmmm.. my 2.1.4beta doesn’t have that line at all, and I have XSS turned off. Can you try commenting out that line?

Hi Sue, Thanks for the response. I have commented out that line and turned off XSS. It doesn’t seem to change anything. I have tried logging in as an admin and a super admin. Same issue. Any suggestions?

I’ve had success uploading .pdf files that didn’t work in earlier versions of EE with 2.1.4beta. How big are these .pdf files?

Hi Sue, The files are tiny. Under 20k to 250k. Is it too early to use the beta on a live site?

As Sue said, there were some changes regarding XSS and similar checks. There’s a bug report here, too. We don’t recommend using the Beta on a live site, but that really means you’re doing it at your own risk. I’ve been running it for a while and found it stable. Perhaps you have a staging server where you can try it out? Be sure to make good backups in any case.
