After coming back from vacation I find one of my client’s sites has a “Internal Server Error” status 500. Afaik there was no development done on the site, just posting new content.

Strangely enough the backend loads fine, I can edit and post content. The .htaccess file also looks fine.

How can I begin to debug this?

Fixed the issue by restarting MySQL. Now, about 6 hours later it happened again. In my server logs I see:

[Wed Feb 02 17:49:44 2011] [warn] mod_fcgid: read data timeout in 31 seconds
[Wed Feb 02 17:49:44 2011] [error] [client 91.154.75.171] Premature end of script headers: index.php

This is really a problem as it keeps happening over and over. How can this be resolved?

    stef25,

This is a server error. I grabbed this from Google

This is because the script timeout (IPCCommTimeout) is set to 20 seconds by default. If your script does some more cpu-intensive computations or your server is under heavy load, this may be to short. Therefore, I suggest setting the mod_fcgid directives IPCConnectTimeout and IPCCommTimeout to 10/60 seconds.

I would recommend following up with your host regarding this where they may be able to increase the timeout for you
