I purchased a non-commercial EE2 license about a month ago for the purpose of evaluation. (We are a research institute at a university.) We have decided to move forward with EE for our new website and related sub-sites (main site for our research institute, subsites for the research groups/labs w/in our research institute). As such, we will want to employ MSM.
Our standard environment configuration is 3-layered. For coding/structural work, we start on a DEV server, we then move to a TEST server for additional testing/validation, then we move to a PROD server when all is well.
As I understand it, our current license permits us one production installation and one development installation, is that correct? If that is correct, then I presume that we will need an additional EE2 license in order to support our TEST server, is that correct? If we need the 2nd license, then I presume we’ll also need another copy of MSM? (And as we add additional subsites, would we need to purchase two MSM site ‘addon’ licenses for each site beyond the initial 3?)
How about addons that we purchase from EllisLab? (ie, with the above DEV/TEST/PROD environment in mind) I further assume that licensing for 3rd-party addons will be at the discretion of the individual provider, but is there a ‘standard’ practice for this type of situation?
Thanks,
Jim
