I’m currently working a redesign and their current non-EE website is hosted on a Windows server.  I’d like to develop the new site fully before making it live as this is my first time working with EE.

What would be the best course of action: developing the new EE site on a subdomain of their current Windows server or develop it on a remote Linux server and migrate it over? Is it relatively easy to migrate EE2 from Linux to Windows and visa versus?

Please take a list at EE server requirements. As long as your server supports them the underyling OS shouldn’t matter much. That said, a number of things is more difficult on Windows; if given the choice I’d certainly use Linux/Unix as much as possible.
