    Hi there,

I have a problem with EE’s mail function. It seems that e-mail are not being received.

First I developed the site on a development domain, the mail debugging said the server was not configured in the right way. I got this message for both PHP Mail and Sendmail. I contacted my host, but he was adamant things were in place on his side.

Because I want to be sure the website is fully functioning when putting it live (on another domain as the dev domain), I decided to do a local checkout and put it on my local webserver. I got the domain set up as the eventual domain via my vhost in Apache.

When I test my contact form and mailing list, I do not receive any e-mails. I should receive a activation e-mail from my mailing list, which I don’t. And neither do I receive a notification mail from the contact form.

The weird thing is that when I try to send an e-mail via the communicate page, EE says the e-mail is sent. However, I tried numerous e-mail accounts and none received e-mail.. and I did check SPAM folders.

I am using EE 2.1.3 Build 20101220 and I use Freeform for my contact form.

    In the CP I have:
Return email address for auto-generated emails: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
Webmaster or site name for auto-generated emails: company name
    Enable email debugging: yes
    Email protocol: PHP Mail
    Log email console messages: yes

Does anyone have a solution to this problem? It could be server related..
I however don’t want to wait and encounter the same problem when I put the site on the production domain.

    Thanks in advance! 😊

    Hi, vormdigitaal.

I don’t know if you are aware of this, but each time you bump at post, your thread gets put to the bottom of the queue. We work in shifts, and there can be a few hours between our shifts.

Sending email via your local install can be tricky.

What I’d do is the following:

Look in the /system/expressionengine/utilities/email_test.php - and copy it to your root directory. Then visit the page using your browser.

See if email works then. That code takes EE out of the equation.

    Does that help?
