I’m managing a collection of furniture items that need to have their order controlled. But also, be able to control the order per product type (chairs for instance). I know there are a few add-ons for controlling order - but I wasn’t sure if they were able to not only control the overall order of all items, but also a separate order as mentioned above.

    Thanks

johnny.slack, I don’t think you’ll need an add-on for this, if I’ve understood what you want to accomplish.

Have a close look at the options for the orderby parameter on the EE entries tag.

You can order by multiple fields, and with specified sort orders on each. You separate the specifications by pipe characters (’|’).

I think you’ve already realized to use custom fields in a custom field group for your data items, and orderby works on custom fields as well as the standard ones.

    Thanks for the assist, Clive.

Johnny.slack, does the advice from narration help?
