Split Long Forum thread?

Hi, I have a long Forum thread with 1500+ replies and I was wondering how I could “split” or “move” say 1000 of the oldest replies into an “Archived” thread. Clicking on “SPLIT” on the forum topic gives me a lengthy (but not complete?) list of the replies which apparently I would need to select on an individual basis to move to a new topic.

Clicking on “MOVE” is on an individual reply level so again I would need to go though each reply and move them one at a time.

Having recently discovered Data Pruning (not in EE2 though) I note that you can prune “Topics” that are more than X days old. Would this remove an entire thread (and topic) or simply those replies within the thread that were older than X days?

Ideally I would want to locate a reply within the thread and click “split” moving all the replies older to another archive thread.
    Thanks,

    Hi Campbell,

It should only erase those topics that are older.  Any threads with newer posts should be unaffected.  This is a permanent erasing so it would be prudent to make a backup of your database prior to any mass removal.

Ideally I would want to locate a reply within the thread and click “split” moving all the replies older to another archive thread.

I recommend you add this as a feature request.

As for getting the task done, there may be some third party add-ons which may be of use. Alternatively you can preform the rather labor intensive split and manually move the remaining posts.
