I’m looking for a way to display the author menu in the main publish page, without having to click on a tab. Is this possible, via setting in EE or extension? I’ve poked around, but can’t find anything.

I am not aware of an extension that would do this. I know of a fieldtype that list members but not authors
Other than that take a look at devot-ee.com
