Confused by localization/DST - entry and comment times off by one hour

Hi there. I’m having an issue with entry and comment times, and hoping someone can shed some light.

Right now, if a comment is added to an existing entry, or if I add a new entry, the time is one hour ahead of what it should be. I think my localization settings are correct. My server is located in Atlanta, and should be EST. My server time zone is set to UTC -5, Eastern Standard Time. Nothing in the server offset field. DST is set to no, and honor DST is set to yes.

DST was originally set to yes. I changed it to no thinking that was the issue, but when I tried adding a new entry, it’s still ahead by one hour.

I have a few questions. First, I’m trying to figure out why times are ahead by an hour, and correct that.

Second, do I need to manually adjust the DST yes/no toggle in localization settings in the spring when DST goes into effect and in the fall when standard time is back? Do I also need to pay attention to the DST active on date of entry option on individual entries and adjust accordingly?

I’ve seen the DST bug mentioned regarding version 2. Aside from the bug, does version 2 handle the DST automatically (instead of me needing to adjust the settings by hand)?

    I’m running version 1.7.0. Thanks.

Turns out DST was selected in my member profile. Deselecting that seems to correct the one hour off time issue. I’m still curious if I have to manually adjust this 2x a year—turn it on in the spring, off in the fall. Then there are three places where this could be changed—localization, member preferences, and individual entries. Would be nice if this just worked automatically.

    Douglas,

You will need to manually change this when DST comes around for you. You are welcome to make a feature request for this to work automatically.

You can limit this to two places if you tick the Use this member’s localization settings as the master site default? under Member Preferences in your Account menu

    Hi John,

Thank you for your response. That clears it up. I don’t quite understand why there are multiple places to change the setting, but I know enough now to manage it at least. I will be sure to adjust this accordingly when DST rolls around.

    Thanks,
    Doug
