Hi - I’m using EE v1.6.8 and have recently transferred to a new server host.

The site all shows up fine and seems to have transferred OK, except I seem to have lost the sub-tabs in the Control Panel, under Publish and Edit weblog entries.  Screenshot attached.

For example, where there used to be sub-tabs for Publish, Category, Date, Sitemap etc, only the ‘Sitemap’ tab remains, and it actually shows the ‘Publish’ fields for editing!  I can Edit fields here or Publish a new weblog, however I’ve lost the functionality of the other tabs.

Is this likely to be an installation or database error?  Am I likely to be able to resolve this by upgrading to version 1.7.0 or 2.1.2?

    Thanks!

    Hi Ken,

That looks like it might be to do with the way that the database was recreated. Can you please describe what steps you took to transfer the server?

    Cheers

    Greg

Greg - sorry for delay on this response, been on holiday.

I used PHPMyAdmin on the original server to Export the database, then Import on the new database.

I uploaded all other files and folders by FTP from my offline copy.

Can you recommend any specific procedure, or are there settings I should be looking out for?

    Thanks a million.

    Ken,

Double check that you are connecting to the new database.

    Check all your server paths.

In your weblog preferences what options are tuned on under Publish Page Customization?

Do you get any browser JavaScript errors?

Double check that you are connecting to the new database.

    Here is Admin report:

CP Home ›  Admin ›  Utilities ›  SQL Manager
    SQL Manager
    SQL Info   Value
    Database Type   mysql
    Database Version   4.1.12-log
    Database Records   4888
    Database Size   2.6 MB
Database Uptime   4 weeks, 13 hours, 41 minutes (this is the same period since the server upgrade occurred)

    Check all your server paths.

Where specifically do I do this?

In your weblog preferences what options are tuned on under Publish Page Customization?

All of them are YES for each weblog, as on the previous server.

Do you get any browser JavaScript errors?

None as far as I can see.

    Thanks for further guidance!

Your server paths are set in EE’s configuration, especially Admin > System Preferences > General Configuration. Are you using any extensions? Could the CP have been modified by one?

In General Configuration, the only potentially incorrect path could be the “Theme Folder Path” - could this be the cause?  On the previous dedicated Linux server, I was able to log in at root and the path was:

    /var/www/vhosts/greentrax.com/httpdocs/themes/

However the new server is a shared one, and I cannot access the full root path - so I should contact the server provider to check this path?  But wouldn’t the entire control panel theme not function if this was incorrect?

I had installed Super Search, that’s the only additional module I’d installed.

I intend to upgrade to EE v2.1.2 - is it wise to try and resolve this error before upgrading, or could upgrading solve the issue?

As the content has remained unchanged since transfer, I can alternatively try to re-transfer the database - is there a recommended procedure for this?

You might want to ask your host about the full server path, yes.

It’s 2.1.3 now, actually, and, yes, upgrading is recommended without having to wait for this error to be found and fixed.

I’m trying to upgrade from v1.6.8 to v2.1.3 now, though I’m getting stuck when I’m trying to run the Update Wizard:

    http://ellislab.com/expressionengine/user-guide/installation/update_from_1.x.html
    4.  Run The Update Wizard

It’s just returning a blank screen.

I had renamed my system folder but I’ve double checked the full path (Linux) entered in newsystem/index.php and newsystem/expressionengine/config/config.php as:

    /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/httpdocs/newsystem

Folder permissions should also be set correctly but could you confirm these?

I had renamed my main site file but I have temporarily reset this (and in .htaccess) back to index.php

    Can anyone help here?  Thanks.

After running the Server Wizard, I now find out that my host provider’s server does NOT support PHP Version 5.1.6 or greater - despite them having assured me that it did.

So this could be the cause of the initial problem here?  Is PHP 5.1.6 a requirement for running EE v1.6.8?

Hi, Ken. No, you don’t need PHP 5.1.6 for running EE1.6.8.

Do you have any sort of way to test this locally?

No I don’t - however I’ll try and set this up this week using MAMP.

The installation is being moved to a server with the required version of PHP.

    Will update later, thanks!

The missing menu tabs have been fully restored…

The server provider had assured me that the PHP version was as required, but after I double checked using the EE Server Wizard, it wasn’t!  After transfer to an upgraded server (and free extension of my hosting subscription), this issue was resolved.

I’ll be upgrading to v2.1.3 shortly.
