I am migrating an existing EE install to a new host, I just wanted to confirm the steps.

    1. Back Up Database
    2. Back Up Files
    3. restore DB to New DB
    4. FTP Backup files to new web server
    5. update settings in control panel if server locations have changed.

Is this correct?  I don’t have to reinstall at the new host like when I did a reinstall…right?  Just making sure before I go gungho on copy files over to the new host.  Thanks for the input in advanced.

Seems right - maybe #3 and #4 are interchangeable, not sure. Everything else seems right though. I had a mess doing this a long time ago: http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/138568/

Actually, this might be the best link to double-check your migration: http://expressionengine.com/wiki/Moving_from_Development_Server_to_Live_Server/

The images are missing from my control panel.  I’ve ran into this problem before and I fixed it by uploading the themes folder again and then copying over it, but that didn’t work.  Any ideas how to solve this?

    Thanks for the assist, jcollinsmedia!

sleven, there are some hosts where you have to put the cp_themes folder inside the /system folder. Give that a try and see if it helps.

    Hey Sue,

That didn’t work. I uploaded to the folder and checked the cp and it the images didnt show.  I changed the paths in the preferences to match ../syste/cp_themes, didn’t work.  Any other ideas?

So, the site is running as such, but the images in your CP are missing? Try to upload a fresh set of CP theme files, and make sure that file permissions are OK, too.

I’ve done that a few times already.  What should the file permissions be set to for the cp_themes folder?

    sleven1868,

The images are missing from my control panel.

Don’t move your theme folder just yet. Check your theme folder URL and theme server path in your General Configuration.
Next check in your config.php and see if any theme related variable exists there. If there is update it with relevant path or URL

I changed the paths in the preferences to match ../syste/cp_themes

It would be the them URL that would grab your theme images so check that.
Use your absolute server path for your theme path

    Hey John,

There is nothing in the config.php that is related to the themes folder.  I used the absolute server path but I still have the same issue.  Any other ideas?

I was using path in my URL that inclded a directory that I didnt need in the entry for the themes folder, that’s what was breaking it.  I talked to the host and they helped resolve the URL entries in the control panel.  Thanks for the help.  This is resolved.
