    I have a custom field of the type: Multi Select.  It is populated by another custom field that is a basic text input field with no text formatting.

    For some reason, the Multi Select’s first <option> is 2 dashes:—

    Any idea where those dashes are coming from?

    See the attached image for more detail.

    It has to be something with the formatting or a bug. If the source field (text) and destination field (multi) are set to format ‘none’ I get a blank spot rather than dashes as well.
    It only seems to work properly when values are entered manually.

    This is line 218 of my /system/expressionengine/fieldtypes/ft.multi_select.php

    $field_options[''] = '--';

    Commenting it out doesn’t seem to break anything. Just wondering why it’s even needed.

    Ideas anyone?

    ps: I’m running EE v2.1.0 Build 20101020

    It’s just a visual reminder that no option has been selected, kind of a default value. Commenting it out shouldn’t break anything.
