    Guys,

    I am running Expression 1.6.9 build 20090723.

I am having a problem of users not being able to log out.
I have tried adding in the cookie domain as

    .domain.com

And I have MSM installed as well, so have added the relevant cookie domain in all sites.
This doesn’t seem to have any effect.

I have used an incognito Chrome window and login/logout works fine - because it doesn’t store cookies etc I guess.

I’ve read a lot of threads on this problem but none seem to be fixing the problem.

    Thanks.

    DavidMason,

Is this the front-end or control panel?
Have you got a link to your site(s)?

    Thanks John.
    PM-d you.

    It’s front end only.

I have reset the cookie domains and cleared the existing cookies and it seems to work.
However, it’s not feasible to ask all of our users to clear their cookies, so what can we do to get around this?

    Thanks!

What I’d do is send out a mass emailing to your registered members and give them instructions on how to clear their cookies if needed. New members won’t be effected by the problem - I was able to log in, log out, and back in again using the login you sent John.

    Thanks Sue,

But ideally I’d like to solve this without having the users need to do anything.

I’ve been experimenting with cookies, but now the cookie domain is set to .domain.com, when I try and delete cookies on http://www.domain.com it doesn’t work.
Is it even possible to clear cookies on http://www.domain.com when the cookie domain is set to .domain.com?

OK, I seem to have managed this.

I have looped through all cookies and deleted them.
This deletes those cookies set for .domain.com

I then check the existence of any expression engine cookie - I use exp_last_activity.
If that exists I manually set all the exp_ cookies to expire.
