Our EE 1.6.9 site is getting more traffic than usual and is intermittently throwing SQL errors like:

Error #145. exp_online_users is marked as crashed and should be repaired.

    Query SELECT * FROM exp_online_users WHERE site_id= 1 AND date > 1290425832 AND weblog_id = 0 ORDER BY name

Repairing the table fixes the issue momentarily, but it has reoccurred a few times in the last 24 hours.

I turned on caching for two of the busiest templates. Otherwise, there haven’t been any other config changes that I know of.

We’re hosted on MediaTemple DV if it makes a difference.

I realize there is a new minor release available, but we haven’t been able to take the site down for maintenance. Are there any other things I should look into?

Are you seeing a spike in online users?

FWIW, I don’t use the feature that displays the name/number of online users on the site. Is there a way to turn off that tracking or is it necessary for something else?

Any thoughts? It just happened again.

It’s an issue with your db, looks like it can’t keep up with the load. Yes, you can disable a few things, among them user tracking. Can you try that, see if it helps any?

    siffring,

Did that subdue the original issue for you?

It’s hard to tell since the traffic isn’t as high yet as before. But the online user tracking explanation on that wiki page sounds pretty close to what I was seeing. Hopefully turning that off will help.

I also made some template changes that sped up the page quite a bit.

    Gotta love troubleshooting performance issues!

    Thanks for your help.
