I am incorporating a blog in a larger site, and trying to come up with the best organizational scheme for the blog templates. I need 5 different displays:

    1. Main page showing summaries/excerpts of the last x-many entries.
    2. The “title_permalink”—displaying an individual entry in full, with comments.
    3. Display entries (title and summary) by category.
    4. Display entries (title and summary) by month.
    5. Display a list of all entry titles, organized by date.

Is there a “best practice” for organizing blog templates to achieve these several display types?

    Thanks for any ideas.

    Your approach sounds logical.

I like to put entry archives (by year, month, category) etc. in to side columns, using embedded templates.

When you show by category, you can use this type of URL: site.com/articles/category/ice-cream

@expdesign, thank you for your response and advice. I’m sorry I neglected to acknowledge it sooner. I did adopt your approach and I think it’s working well on the site—see paulcholinger.com/issues-and-advice.
