I am trying to create a calendar of events for my EE site.  I setup a weblog based calendar like this wiki page suggest.  However, my site covers events in 16 states and there are hundreds of events.  Manually updating these is a nightmare.

All of our events are submitted to us by people in the respective states.  What I would like to do instead of manually creating new events hundreds of times in the calendar weblog, is to allow people to submit their events directly to the calendar instead of emailing them to us.

Then I could simply approve the event rather than having to paste in all that information manually.  What’s the best way to achieve this type of functionality?

Has anyone done anything like this? (Not necessarily just with a calendar.) I would think that any site with community generated content might have some overlap with what I am trying to do.

Not sure if your in EE 1 or 2.  But you should be able to use SAEF (Stand Alone Entry Forms) http://expressionengine.com/legacy_docs/modules/weblog/entry_form.html
With a default status that doesn’t display on the site.

Then you could use the weblog notifications (Admin -> Weblog Administration -> Weblog Management -> Edit Preferences -> Notification Preferences) to have an email sent to you upon a new event being submitted.

From there you should be able to review / change the status of an event and it would show up on the site.

Does that sound like it would do the trick for you?

    carrenogroup,

I ended up taking the path of least resistance. I made an Events blog and made a blog post for each state. Each month someone on staff copies and pastes the new calendar from a word file into each state’s blog post. This is far from the best way to do things, but with hundreds of events each month, it is the fastest. If you treat each event as its own entry, you will be able to sort post by any field for which you have info (i.e. date, location, time, etc).

The site in question in this thread was/is running EE 1. I suggest you start a new thread with a description of your problem and your version of EE. People on the forums are usually pretty quick to help out, and you’ll probably get more relevant information from a thread specific to your issue.
