Is is possible to setup a custom related field, that displays a category from the gallery, instead of each individual photo uploaded?

What version and build of EE are you using? Do you mean to create a relationship with a category instead of a single entry?

And yes , a relationship with a gallery category , so we can display all that categories images on a template

I’m afraid a relationship is always between two entries, not a category as such. You’d need to find an alternative approach here, unfortunately.

Yes we have found a solution , we make the client enter the category I’d into a custom field. Not ideal , they keep forgetting where to get the gattlegory id from

Our own Robin created a gallery relationship extension some time back. The thread has long since been pruned but you could try contacting her to see if it still exists on her machine
