MSM issue?

    Hi all,

have upgraded our EE MSM account to include 3 additional licenses.
(the upgrade was done exactly as per these indications.
    http://expressionengine.com/legacy_docs/cp/sites/additional_sites.html )

Each of these resides on the same server as the default site and the 2 current working aliased MSM sites.
Each has the same structure “/var/www/siteName.com/httpdocs/” etc.

each uses path.php to “alias” main site’s install.
I have copied the exact path string into the new install that works flawlessly in current sites.

it looks something like this (site and system made generic)

    $system_path = “../../../siteName.com/httpdocs/home/systemName/”;

but I am unexpectedly getting the “The System Path does not appear to be set correctly. ...” ERROR

Is there some quirk to adding extra sites that is not in the docs?
What steps should I take to troubleshoot?

One thing to note is that the main directory of the new site is “2010”  a number.
I don’t know why this would affect it but…

    any help appreciated.

Hi, Andreas. Have you tried renaming that folder? Is it just one of the sites, or all three of the new sites?

well..l I’ll get to the other sites once this one is set…

While it defies logic, I’ll try renaming folder.

Seems like a “numeric” folder not working would be a bug or a “feature” if changing it to letters does work.

    will report back

Looking at your folder structure, is the next site at the same level as the other two?

yes exact same level in all cases. quadruple checked twice over!

I’m wondering if it is related to licensing upgrade. What else is MSM checking for as it loads a site?
If it is verifying the data on upgrade ... then an error thrown could cause problem seen.

I think I will destroy new site, clear caches,  then rebuild as per install instructions (being careful to maintain exact sequence).
Any other issues I should check into?

(btw this is 1.6.8 not 1.6.9. Let me know if you think I should delete new site, then upgrade entire install & then reapply the additional MSM licenses).

(If I can’t get this working I will need money back on the 3 additional licenses. And then I will need to figure out how to most quickly solve the issue and build site by other means.)

If you’re running a newer version of MSM, your EE version needs to be upgraded to match.

I deleted site, and cleared all caches before I upgraded and re-updated:

    we now have:

    Multiple Site Manager
    Version: 1.1 Build: 20100805

    ExpressionEngine 1.6.9
    Build:  20100805

We then added site back in via “Edit sites”
    and added

    - URL for site in settings
-a default template (“site/index.php”) for a “hello world”.

exact same “The System Path does not appear to be set correctly. ...” ERROR message

so no advance on this whatsoever. It’s a complete mystery so far…
    😖

Is there some obscure setting I need to investigate/change?

am looking into open_basedir set up and cross domain permissions

    dreas,

Just to confirm. For each of your sites you have added a unique path.php and index.php in their roots?

Inside the path.php for each site you have updated the $system_path and $site_name as per instructions here

Take a look at your PHP Info for a open_basedir value

    All ok now.

    open basedir was issue.

values needs to explicitly reference main install as well as current domain.

Might warrant a note on upgrade MSM page. Then again might not…

Btw php info in the CP only allows view of the main install.
best to ftp or write a “test” php file to get this value on each server .
