    Hi Folks,

    I would really appreciate a hand with a PHP 3 compatibility issue.  My client’s web host is upgrading to PHP 5.3.3 very soon (currently they are running PHP 5.2.13).  My client is running ExpressionEngine v1.6.7 Build 20090211.

    In setting up a copy of the site in the PHP 3 test environment provided by the web host I am encountering a repeated PHP error in the CP and the front-end.

    Deprecated: Function eregi() is deprecated

    I have made the edits suggested here by Derek but this does not take care of the errors.  Instead it makes the pages (both in the CP and the front-end) load very very slowly.  When they finally do load, after a hang time of about 60 seconds, the same repeated error is displayed as before.

    Maybe I’m missing something or misinterpreting Derek’s instructions.  I only have a few days to address this issue, so wanted to see if I could call on your expertise for some support.

    Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Surely you don’t mean PHP 3, do you? EE 1 will need PHP 4.1 or newer, and EE 2 PHP 5.0 or newer.

    My client is running ExpressionEngine v1.6.7 Build 20090211.

    Please upgrade to EE 1.6.9, too.

    No, I mean PHP 5.3.3 as I stated in the title of the post and elsewhere in my post.

    The PHP3 was a typo, Ingmar.

    I will upgrade to 1.6.9.  Do you expect that to resolve the error message?

    Yes, I do. If it doesn’t, we’ll take it from there.

    Turns out the latency issue was host-related.

    I updated to v1.6.9 and everything is good to go.  Guess that’s what keeping your EE install up to date will do for you, eh? 😊

    You may close this thread if you like.

    Thanks.
