Hosting Question (Sort of)

    Hi

Because of a number of reasons, I am stuck on a web hosting environment (Government) that runs php4.  This knocks out a number of features I want to implement.  I have signed up for an EngineHosting account (works great by the way 😊).  The question, is it possible for me to host part of the website on the php4 server and part of the site on the EngineHosting and have data ‘exchanged’ between the two?  One of the stumbling blocks I see is access to mySQL from either environment.

    Thanks for any input.

    Cheers

    Steve

Hi, Steve. EE2.1 requires PHP5. So you wouldn’t be able to use it on that server.

    Hi Sue

I actually have it running on the PHP4 server - the only thing is that not all of the 3rd party modules etc will run there e.g. safecracker will happily reside but matrix and wygwam won’t, hence my attempt at a hybrid solution 😊

I am afraid that would be rather difficult to pull off, if possible at all. I certainly don’t recommend it. If you need add-ons that require PHP 5 you would have to find a suitable host with that environment. Heck, it’s a good idea anyway. PHP 4 has reached the end of it’s life cycle; it’s no longer supported since August 2008.
