Populating a custom drop down field

I want to include a drop down field of all the counties in the UK for one of my channels.

When creating the custom field, if I choose field type “Select Dropdown”, I see there are only the following 2 options:

Populate the menu manually
Populate the menu from another custom field

Is it possible to populate this drop down using a query and if so how?
