I created a new site and copied one of the existing sites so that the templates were the same.  I used ftp to copy all of the files and paste them into the new site folder.  I then went in and changed the site name on all of the templates, but the site is not working properly.  I am unable to see items in the structure or edit tabs that are visible when viewing the site.

My goal was to copy an existing site and then make changes to it so that it shows different information.  Did I not do this correctly?  Any help with this process would be greatly appreciated.  I am very new to Expression Engine and am trying to work with a site that was developed by a professional and then handed off to me.

Are you talking about EE files, or the EE templates? Are you saving your templates as files?

It’s probably easiest to just take a copy of the database, then make any changes as desired. There’s more information on the process here.

Also, what version and build are you using? Any extensions? Do you’ve got a link?

    We are using EE 1.6.8

Maybe the better approach is to ask how to copy a subsite?  We have our main site and we have a subsite for a subsidiary company.  I need to know how to copy the subsite and then change words, images, etc to tailor the site to a different subsidiary company.  We want to end up with three sites at that point.

    Is that any clearer?

Hi, argy_mw. First of all, let’s get you in the right spot.. changing to EE1.x section.

You’re going to need to use the MSM (Multiple Site Manager) to accomplish what you want.

EEDocs:// MSM Site Info is the place to get started.

    Does that help?

We are currently using MSM version 1.1, Build 20081024.

I didn’t realize that was what I was being asked for earlier, I’m very new to EE and have been blindly stumbling through since the website was handed over to me.

When you say copy a subsite, I *think* you mean how can you duplicate an existing site and just change around a few things like graphics, etc?

When you create a new MSM site, you’re asked if you want to duplicate content, you can at the time you create your site.
